Second Graders Plant Oregano, Assorted Lettuce in Tower Garden

North Ridge second graders in Tara Milana and Christine Schultz’s class had their chance to plant seeds in a vertical tower garden on Monday afternoon.
The students planted bibb lettuce, romaine, arugula, gourmet lettuce, basil and oregano.
The students learned from Plant Up founder Lety Algeri about the different needs of plants, including sunlight, soil and carbon dioxide, before planting the seeds.
They also learned that the vertical tower garden is efficient space-wise and can substitute a different light source for the sun — allowing the assorted lettuce and other vegetables to grow in the primary school’s science room.
